The Truth About Soviet Russia

It's always good to remember that there will always be some form of political opinion. Of course, it's also good to remember that if you don't agree with the rhetoric, you don't have to keep reading about it.

Jesus Loves Me...

That's right. Jesus loves me fast asleep, because when I'm awake I'm really loud!

Blow The Whistle

Nothing says "I had no idea what to get you" like a cloisonné whistle.

It's a good thing these are only $8.00. Then you'll have something left over to try (and fail) again.

Distressed Painted Wood

Two shots of the same bit of distressed wood. The only difference is the angle the camera was held to allow the ambient light to change some. Personally, I just like the way the paint has worn off the wood.

Someone shot the couch.

I originally thought that the jacket would be a fun piece. Maybe with a more plain shirt and tie instead, but fun none the less.

Then I saw that it matched the furniture...

Spotted at Neiman Marcus, Northpark Mall, Dallas Texas during Fashion Night Out.

Grin and Bear It - The "New" Antiques

There's a new kind of antique store cropping up everywhere. It's not just antiques, and it's not really crafts, but it does have quite a bit of the more unusual items that don't show up in often in your "traditional" antique store.

Upcycled USB Hub

Every once in a while I have an idea to merge two [useless] items together. This one is a USB hub (pulled from its broken case) added to some used cypress posts (cut down to fit). The result is a big and bulky, but still useful, USB hub. The LED glow from the center is pretty neat, but I'll leave it up to the reader as to if they find it inspiring for a piece of wooden technology, or if it just looks like junk.

Vintage Type Tray

Close up view of a vintage wooden type tray. Perfect for holding all sorts of little things (including dust).

Double Ad Fail

I think Google missed the target audience and language here. Do Monster Truck Jam fans really shop at Neiman Marcus? Is the Grave Digger fan's cosmetic of choice L'Oreal? Are there more Spanish speaking Grave Digger fans than any other language?

Someone needs to give the engineer who wrote the ad algorithm here a ride in a monster truck and scare some logic and sense into them.

"Swinging" Vintage Advertisement

A great vintage ad from the early 1970s. It was certainly a swinging era! I think I'll go read some Travis McGee books again...

Instant Seduction

That's funny, I've never had much luck with the "Hey Baby, I've got cheese and eggs" line...

Vintage Bookshelf Drawing

I won't lay claim to have drawn this. It's actually from a vintage woodworking book. But the design still inspires me.

Maybe one day I'll actually try and build one.

Wave to all the nice people

Who knows where this AA flight is coming from? It's arriving in DFW shortly. In the meantime, a nice friendly Texas wave is in order, even if they can't see me...

Smoke Break

It's the small towns that sometimes produce the best candid pictures. I've had so many thoughts for captions on this one, and yet none of them truly capture the moment.

I'll just let the picture speak for itself...

Antique Pricing Fail

Sometimes antique dealers get a little too anxious to price their merchandise and forget to take off the original price from the object they're trying to sell.

At least they're only calling this one "vintage style" and not just plain "vintage".

Micro World

Sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective to create a whole new world. These photos were taken at  an erosion area at a construction site. From above it just looked like bad erosion. Getting the camera down in the gulleys though brings in a new perspective and with it a new world of possibilities.

As a kid I would have loved to have come across this with a bag of plastic army men or little Matchbox construction vehicles. The little dirt bridges that didn't get washed out are ripe with the possibilities of a little boy's mind.

Fun With Lens Flare

It's nice when you can still capture some good lens flare with a digital camera. Thanks to my trusty Nokia N8, this isn't an issue.

Springtime and Dandilions

It's that time of year again. That special time of year where everything turns green and starts to bloom. The only trouble is that the first things to bloom at always the things you don't want in your yard...

Teddy the Pyromaniac

The family didn't realize that their new addition was really a pyromaniac until it was too late and Teddy had already torched the house and cars. by then it was too late. Pity.

Don't blame me if that's not what the book is about. I just judged it by its cover, that's all.

The Humpty Dumpty statue in front of the Richardson Library. The book titles he's sitting on are awesome.

It's Coffee Time

This is an awesome pattern on a vintage tie I came across today. I'm debating going back to get it. The big question is going to be what suit should I wear it with?

Vintage Wet/Dry Vac

Nothing makes cleaning up a mess more fun than a vintage Power-Kleen 2 in Harvest Gold harlequin pattern.

Sadly, I already own a nice Wet/Dry Vac by Rigid so I didn't need this one. I'm heart broken. Really.

Not For Food Use

All the labels on home decoration items these days stating that they are not for food use honestly bothers me some. It doesn't matter if I'm going to use the items for food or not. What's on it that it shouldn't touch anything I ingest? More so, should I even be touching it or having it in my house where it could be touched?

Of course, bad English makes this whole "Not for food use" even more amusing and concerning.

Got Wood?

I don't know what it is, but I love the age and texture of this wood desk. It's seen years of use and I'm pleased to be able to add to it's usage.

Keep on Truckin'

I've always liked how work vehicles "age" throughout their lifespan. The work and abuse gives the vehicle a certain character that you just can't mimic.
